A tip for tomorrow

It's almost Halloween!!!! Love that! Now, one of the favorite things to wear/use on Halloween are fake eyelashes. They are a challenge, even for the seasoned makeup pro. So, for those of you who really, really want to wear them, let's discuss a few helpful tips.

1. Individual lashes are a skillion times easier than the strip ones. Grab a pair of tweezers, dip the end of the bunch into a dab of glue and stick them exactly where you want them.

2. No good? Do you have a strip that you want to use? Well, you have 2 options. You can always cut them in half or in thirds. It makes them MUCH easier to handle. Or, you can leave them whole. When you are applying the eyelash glue to the strip(s), make sure that it is a THIN layer. Allow the glue to dry slightly. If it's still very wet, it's just going to be a big mess on your eyelids. When the glue is just tacky, start at the inner corner of your eye and SLOOOOOWLY and carefully lay the strip as close to your lashline as possible. If you screw up, don't panic. Just pull the lash off, peel off the glue, and start over.

This is definitely a job for a steady hand and a cool head. Make sure that you have plenty of time to put them on and good lighting. Also, curl your real eyelashes before you put your fake ones on and then apply mascara after you put them on to help blend them together.

It's the good news blog!

First and foremost- E.L.F. cosmetics are now being sold at Target! Ta da! One of my highest recommended cosmetics lines and now you can get it at one of your favorite stores! No more waiting on the shipping!

Second- new shampoo recommendation. Have any of you tried the Organix line? http://www.drugstore.com/templates/brand/default.asp?brand=56531&trx=29985&trxp1=56531&trxp2=3
They are paraben and sulfate free. That means they are extremely gentle and also perfect for colored hair. They have enough types and smells for just about any hair type- dry, coarse, frizzy, weak, etc. I, myself, am going to try the teatree mint. The smell is out of this world and I can't wait to see what it does for my hair.

Breast cancer awareness product of the day: This is THE eyeshadow: http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=178100&catid=159061&cmbProdBrandFilter=55394&mp=True&trx=GFI-0-MBS&trxp1=159061&trxp2=178100&trxp3=2&trxp4=1
Makeup artists all over the world rave about it. It somehow manages to look good on everyone! It brightens the eye area and makes you look more awake. And let's be honest, some days that's what we all need...

A helpful little tip

So, you're going to put on your concealer or foundation and you take a look at yourself in the mirror first. Yikes. Your skin is some kind of dry. Even little flakes under your eyes. Zoinks. Mix a drop of your moisturizer in your palm with your foundation and/or your concealer before you apply it. That will ease the dryness and it will give you a nice, soft, glowy look.

Breast cancer awareness product o' the day: Pedicure socks. Um, what? Check it out: http://www.earththerapeutics.net/prodinfo.asp?number=9069 If you still get pedis in the winter like me, you will love these! First of all, they help hold in all that glorious moisturizer I'm sure just got rubbed in. Also, whether I am polishing at home or going to a nail salon, my feet get so cold! These will keep your feet warm while you polish those toenails and you can even slide your flip flops on afterwards to walk to your car! Get the pink ones, of course!

Totally random discovery

So, I was at my local Trade Secret stocking up on necessities (hair spray, OPI nail polish, etc) when I was given a free sample. It was Joico hair styling oil: http://www.joico.com/product/colortherapy/368

Now, my first instinct was to laugh and hand it right back. But, then I read the back and I was intrigued. This stuff was supposed to seal the cuticle of my hair and make it soft and shiny and help protect my color? Hang on! That last thing says it will cut my drying time down??? And that was all it took. Bravely, I put roughly a nickel sized amount in my palm the next morning after my shower and smoothed it through my hair. When I dried my hair, I noticed afterwards that it definitely helped it feel softer and it was shiny. Later in the day, it kind of gave my hair this cool, piece-y look.

Here's the best part- you don't have to have colored hair to use this product. It would be wonderful for any hair. It would help cut down on some static and I'm sure would bring some super shine to my curly haired friends, too. This product is pretty cool, if I do say so myself. ONE CAVEAT! If you don't wash your hair every day, don't use it on you non-wash days if you used it the day before. You'll look (and feel) a little greasy. Trust me on this one.

Breast cancer awareness product of the day: Rose scented soap? Yes please!! http://www.lather.com/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=610&idCategory

These all natural soaps are perfect for any skin type and you'll be doing good when you buy them!

Sad news!

So, for some awful reason, Max Factor is discontinuing it's cosmetics line in the United States as of January 2010. Apparently, they are going to keep selling overseas. Now, after an appropriate mourning period, I decided that what I need to do is just stock up on all my favorites and keep them in a cool, dry place to make them last. I would advise all of you to do the same! Especially their mascaras, which are my all time favorites!!!

So, you are all hereby warned with plenty of time to do something about it!

Breast cancer awareness product of the day: Mmmm! Delicious scents! http://melangeperfume.com/catalog.php?category=3

Some people are HUGE solid perfume fans. And solid is not exactly the right description. It's more like a wax, if you've never tried it. You warm it up and rub it into your skin and and the scent just lingers all day. Yummy!!!

Back in the saddle...

...so, I know I've been MIA for a couple of days. Sorry y'all. So let's see what fun things I have to start your week off.

1. Want to put on a lip color in the morning and not have to worry about it all day? I know we've talked about stains before, but this is a tiny bit different. It'a Laura Mercier's Lip Stain: http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P188501&shouldPaginate=true&categoryId=5809
Somehow, instead of this being drying, it's actually kind of creamy. I love to put this stuff on and then just put lip balm or a clear gloss over it all day. My favorite color? The Sugar Violet. But, the Mulberry would be perfect for fall as well!

2. I am a hardcore waterproof mascara user. However, I have so many mascara samples that I decided not to let them go to waste. I tried Clinique's Lash Doubling mascara (http://www.clinique.com/product/CATEGORY4904/PROD6268/Makeup/Mascara/index.tmpl) this weekend and was pleasantly surprised! This stuff was rich and black and went on without a single clump. GORGEOUS! The only thing was that you need to make sure that the first coat is light and let it dry completely before adding the second coat. Otherwise, it will pull the curl out of your lash.

3. Please, please, please remember that during the fall and winter months the drier atmosphere can really impact the surface of your skin. There are lots of little steps you can take but one of the big ones is using a low lather cleanser in the morning and at night. Remember that the foaming action in most cleansers are just a detergent that don't actually do anything. The American public thinks that the more foam/bubbles you get, the cleaner you're getting. Nope. Just stripping that top layer of moisture from your skin. So, look for a low or no lather cleanser and it's a giant leap towards keeping your skin healthy for the next few months. My suggestions? Cetaphil is the top recommended one: http://www.drugstore.com/templates/brand/default.asp?brand=8209&trx=GFI-0-EVGR-MCN&trxp1=10211&trxp2=8209&trxp3=3&trxp4=TB
The best part? This stuff is CHEEEEAP! You can get it al Wal-Mart!
Also a great option is the Basis Cleansing bar: http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=16628&catid=10211&trx=GFI-0-EVGR-11695&trxp1=10211&trxp2=16628&trxp3=1&trxp4=3&btrx=BUY-GFI-0-EVGR-11695
So mild and safe.
If you have very sensitive skin that tends to get chapped in the cooler weather, this is a great option: http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=139643&catid=79350&trx=PLST-0-CAT&trxp1=79350&trxp2=139643&trxp3=1&trxp4=0&btrx=BUY-PLST-0-CAT
Eucerin has been recommended by dermatologists for years. Give it a try!

A few fun tips for your Wednesday

I know I keep talking about winter coming and dry skin, but I feel like it's something a lot of us deal with. I've got one for you that I can't believe I haven't shared yet.

Now, this is usually my favorite remedy for dry cuticles. But, this can also work for any dry patches of skin or you can combine it with your regular hand lotion. Go to your local health food store and buy a bottle of Vitamin E capsules. The liquid kind. Take a tiny pin and poke a little hole in one of the capsules. That lovely liquid gold is straight vitamin E oil. It is an incredibly moisturizing compound that will work wonders for your skin. I love, love, LOVE it on and around my cuticles and fingernails during the winter. It makes my nail color last longer. It makes my skin softer. And it only takes a small amount. So, a bottle of the pills will last a loooong time. And talk about affordable!

Nail polish color recommendation for the day! Essie's Scarlett O'Hara: http://www.enailsupply.com/index.asp?PageAction=PRODSEARCH&txtSearch=scarlett&Page=1

This is a perfect red! It's not too dark or too light. It's a little metallic. Somehow, it's perfect and looks great with anything!!

Hello perfect pink!!! Now this is a great color that will work for anyone and will give you great, healthy pink lips to go with a beautiful brown fall eye!

Even mine need a little help

I have sad, sad little fingernails. Y'all, they are thin and they peel and I have jungle cuticles. In short, they are hardly my best feature.

So, what do I do? I am addicted to OPI's Nail Envy. http://www.enailsupply.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=16329

It is magic in a bottle. This stuff smooths and strengthens the nail and adds a nice, shiny finish that makes your hands look nice and polished. Even if you don't have an actual manicure. This is without a doubt my go-to nail product. Here's a bonus- if you tend to wash your hands more in the fall/winter to avoid germs, this is a great barrier for keeping all that soap and water from stripping the moisture from your nails.

Breast cancer awareness product of the day: I don't know about y'all, but I am a firm believer in aromatherapy. Origins is too. Try this one on for size: http://www.origins.com/bca/index.tmpl?page=2_BCA_POM09&cm_sp=Refresh-_-10-19-09%20Homepage%20Refresh-_-Main%20MW%20BCA%20Pink%20POM

I don't know about you all, but I could certainly use some stress relief these days.

Such a big no-no!!!

Ladies, can we talk about a giant pet peeve? It's called lip liner. Now, I don't have a problem with lip liner, per se. I even own several shades. What I do have a problem with is women either using a color that is nowhere near their lipstick or gloss shade thereby causing a GIANT obvious outline of your lips. Or, drawing the line outside ones lipline to attempt to make your lips look bigger. No. We all know it's liner. You're fooling no one.

So, if you do like/want to use lip liner, please make sure that you are using it as God intended. It is literally following the line of your lips. You then take a brush and BLEND the line inward to create a nice, soft edge. Finally, you apply your lip color and make sure that there are NO obvious breaks where you can see the line in any way. Lip liner's job is make sure your lipstick/gloss doesn't creep out past the lip line and to help the color stay adhered to the lip. Let's make sure it stays doing its job and we don't add extra, unnecessary responsibilities, shall we?

Breast cancer awareness item of the day: This dee-licious body balm: http://www.pinkribbonshop.com/pink-ribbon-shea-butter-balm-grapefruit-juniper-lavender.aspx
It has such a high concentration of shea butter that there's no way it won't improve your skin during the upcoming dry winter months.

Have you thought about...

...looking for your beauty products someplace other than cosmetics counters and makeup stores? Do you have a T.J. Maxx or a Marshall's near you? Well, at my T.J. Maxx, they have makeup at ridiculous prices. And I'm talking Lancome, Clinique, Bliss, Tarte, etc, etc. It was crazy the stuff they had at the store! Great colors and at least half off the retail price. Most of them were actually more than half off! Who knew?

So, the next time you're looking for a discount bag or shoes, swing by the area in the store with the shampoos/lotions/appliances. I think you might be surprised at the cosmetics you might find, too!!

Breast cancer awareness product of the day: Well, you can't put this on your face, but it sure it cute! Avon's Marimekko tote: http://shop.avon.com/shop/product.aspx?code=&level1_id=300&level2_id=380&pdept_id=382&pf_id=37865&level=3
You can throw a ton of stuff in it for a weekend or keep it in the car with your beauty backups.

You know you want to show it off.

Believe it or not, you have an extremely sexy place on your body. Whether you're having a fat day, a bad hair day, a bad skin day, etc, you have this. I promise. It's your collarbone and your shoulders. This area is always a beautiful place to show off. Why? Because it's classy and mysterious all at the same time without being slutty. Think about it- gorgeous Grecian necklines; what do they show off? The collarbone. All those fabulous vintage 40's gowns. Collarbone. It is just an amazing, feminine thing to show off. Want to give it just a little more oomph? Add a little highlighter all along your collarbone. Your skin will be gleaming and sexy and sophisticated. Give it a try the next time you're wearing an open collar. I think you'll like it.

For highlighting, Too recommends:
Love the E.L.F. facial whips: http://www.eyeslipsface.com/face/shimmering_facial_whip
Any of the more flesh tones ones would look unbelieveable. (I've tried these. You can trust me.)

Benefit's Moon Beam: http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?skuId=2159813&productId=xlsImpprod820344&navAction=push&navCount=1&categoryId=cat80032
This has great staying power and leaves skin gleaming

Sephora's Luminous Glow is so pretty and multi-purpose: http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P243313&categoryId=C13431&shouldPaginate=true

Breast Cancer Awareness item of the day: Aveda's Hand Relief- http://www.aveda.com/templates/products/sp.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CATEGORY10691&PRODUCT_ID=PROD5908
If you have never used this hand cream, you are in for a TREAT! It is literally the best hand lotion ever. No question about it. The best part is that a tee-tiny bit goes a loooong way. So, one tube will last you forever!

Kind of a cool thing

So, I've been doing my own manicures for a while now. You know, bad economy and all. You can always save a little cash somewhere. Well, as I am sure you all have picked up on by now, I do like dark nail polish. Well, maybe not always dark. Vivid. Let's use that word. :)

Anywho, since I am regularly removing polish, I like to think I have become an expert on taking the stuff off. And one thing that was kind of a pain was that when I would take off the polish with my cotton rounds, they would leave behind lots of threads and fibers and, inevitably, I'd just end up painting those dang things into the new nail polish on my nails. Grrrr... What could I do?? Enter these lovely new things: http://www.aveyou.com/opinailwipes150lint-freewipes.aspx

OPI lint free nail polish remover wipes. You can soak these things in polish remover which is a super plus, lay them on your nail for a few seconds, and wipe the polish right off. Best of all- no little fibers to ruin your next manicure. Ta da!!

Breast cancer item of the day: I'm sorry, but I am a sucker for nail art and/or decals. That's why I love these: http://www.enailsupply.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=11301

What's the worst they can say?

I truly hope that EVERY time you are going to any major makeup counter or Sephora that you are asking what free samples they have lurking behind the counter. They ALWAYS have samples of SOMETHING. If nothing else and it's something that you already use, then ta-da! You now have a convenient travel size to hang onto for your next trip. I'm not kidding. Even if you are going and buying the cheapest thing they've got, always say with a big, nice, polite smile "You don't happen to have any fun samples back there I could try, do you?" What's the worst they could say? "Nope. No samples today." So, no loss. But, it never hurts to ask!

Breast Cancer Awareness Product of the day: E.L.F. has 2 options. The $1.00 one and the $15.00 one: http://www.eyeslipsface.com/kits/think_pink Great choices for a great cause!

TGIF!

Whew. I don't know about y'all, but I sure am glad it's the end of the week. So, some fun tips for today!

The new trend in nail polish right now is matte. It is a very cool, mod look. I think the ones I like the most are in the new OPI Suede line: http://www.enailsupply.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=1535

These are super cool and edgy! Basically, they took some of their most popular colors and made them a flat metallic shade rather than a glossy one. I am currently wearing "Suzi Skis in the Pyrenees Suede." It is this awesome metallic grey that would look unreal on just about any skin tone. Because of the nature of the polish, it dries VERY quickly which is a bonus for those of you with little time. The only thing is that you have to use a matte top coat on it. If you use a regular one, it'll be shiny. Fortunately, both OPI and Essie make great matte top coats. You can also use them on top of any of your old nail colors for the same matte effect! Hello double duty!

If you have a Macy's in your general vicinity, it's bonus time at Clinique right now. I have personally tried all the products in the current bonus and let me tell you- they are PERFECT for the fall. Absolutely GORGEOUS. Get thee to your local Clinique counter and get your free schwag!

Today's Breast Cancer Awareness product: Since you're going to Clinique anyway, grab one of these- http://www.clinique.com/product/CATEGORY4901/PROD15512/Makeup/Lip_Glosses/index.tmpl

Fantastically easy to carry around in universally flattering colors? Yes please!!

Wednesday, October 7, 2009

It's classic. Amazingly classic.

So, pretty much all the world looks to Paris for trends. There's just something about the Parisian woman. And you know what a huge part of it is? Confidence and an attitude of "whatever." Nothing is hotter. But, if you want some makeup suggestions to go with that newfound attitude here's what Too suggests.

1. Black eyeliner and black mascara. Gorgeous, inky, deep black eyeliner and absurdly long lashes. The eyeliner should be slightly smudged but still have that rich darkness. I absolutely adore Prestige's Automatic Eyeliner: http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?skuId=1892801&productId=16493&navAction=push&navCount=1&categoryId=cat80042

It goes on so smooth and creamy and is easily smudgeable. I bought mine at Ride Aid! So you know it's going to be affordable!

As for your mascara, L'Oreal has come out with a mascara that is nearly identical to the coo coo expensive Givenchy one that came out earlier this year: http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?productId=xlsImpprod1510110

Check out that brush!! You know what that brush means? It means you'll be able to get each and every lash. Talk about amazing length and definition.

2. Red lips. Um, seriously- what picture of a woman in Paris doesn't have her in red lipstick? Here's the beauty of it, though. These days, you can use either lipstick, lip gloss, or lip stain to acheive the red lip. Here are some great options"

http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=36035&catid=98645&cmbProdBrandFilter=19389 The epitomoe of a classic red. It's literally been around over 50 years and EVERY major makeup artist has used this at some point.

Breast Cancer Awareness product of the day: The Venus Embrace Razor- http://www.gillettevenus.com/en_US/products/embrace_pink/index.jsp

If you remember, I recommended this razor a month ago or so. The closest shave I've ever had. Hands down. Now, you can get a close shave and help out at the same time!

It's ok. More people do it than you know...

I'm talking about waxing. Pretty much everyone has some fuzz, somewhere that needs to be...addressed. And in this day and age of trying to save a little cash, you know you can take care of your facial issues yourself, right? (Too Beautylicious ALWAYS recommends seeing a pro for bikini waxing and pretty much leg waxing, too). Anywho, here is the wax I recommend Gigi Honee Wax: http://www.beautydeals.net/shop/details.html?id=9

This all-in-one kit is great because it includes wax, linen strips, spatulas, and plenty of pre and post skin care lotions and potions! And the price cannot be beat! It leaves skin super smooth and couldn't be easier to use.

Your Breast Cancer Awareness product of the day is Borba Lip Tint: http://www.borba.com/lip_tint_lovely/product/803

Borba's products are fantastic, loaded with good for you stuff, and this color is universally flattering. Definitely a good thing all the way around!

Now THIS is a hybrid!

After losing 2 (yes, 2) of my favorite lip balms, I was in bad shape the other day. What was I going to do??? I ran into a grocery store to grab my usual Burt's Bees Pomegranate lip balm and THEY WERE OUT!!! AAAAHHHH! Attempting to avoid a meltdown in the aisle, I decided to take a chance and grabbed one of these: http://www.burtsbees.com/natural-products/lips-lip-shimmer-gloss/super-shiny-lip-gloss.html

I bought it in Zesty Red like in the picture. I must say I was pleasantly surprised. First off, the smell is outstanding. It smells exactly like an orange right when you cut into it. None of that fake smelling stuff. Nope- this is the real deal. It goes on perfectly sheer and glossy. The color isn't too scary but shows up nicely. Oh, and this stuff hydrates as well as a balm. My lips felt fantastic after wearing it all day. It's a great purchase for an all-in-one product!

A great little train case to throw your essentials into for a weekend trip. And you can't beat the price.

Sunday, October 4, 2009

Owwww...

My lips are so chapped, they are cracking and peeling!

How often do you say this during the fall/winter? Well, at night, use a dab of your heavier eye cream on your lips before you put on a SUBSTANTIAL layer of lip balm. You should notice a difference almost immediately. Just make sure that you're still using a balm/gloss/something moisturizing on your lips during the day as well. Habitual lip-licking will just keep your lips chapped.

Breast cancer research beauty item of the day: The Kenra Volume Spray: http://www.kenra.com/ (See it over there on the right?) This has been my go-to hairspray for YEARS. It's light and doesn't make your hair stiff. But, it has fantastic holding power. I buy mine at Trade Secret, but it's available at lots of different salons around the country.

First off, if you do not frequent your local Sally Beauty Supply, you are MISSING OUT! They have some GREAT stuff at great prices. Plus, if you join their rewards club (for free) you get mailings every month with coupons and what their specials are. I just got mine in the mail today and they have some UBER cool China Glaze polishes for fall. They are Halloween colors and they are dark and glittery and just plain cool. Did I mention that they're like $2.99? Yeah, that's a steal! Go to www.sallybeauty.com and browse around. Check out the nail polishes and other things. And your Breast Cancer Research product of the day is: http://www.esteelauder.com/pinkribbon/index.tmpl?cm_sp=Gnav-_-WhatsNewPromo-_-BCA

Don't add. Subtract.

So, you've hit 3:00 in the afternoon. You run to the bathroom and WHOA! What is all that crazy shininess??? You can see things reflecting in your forehead!!! Your first instinct is to GRAB your powder and slap a bunch on. NOOOOO! You don't need to! What you need are blotting papers. These magical little creations manage to absorb excess oil without touching your makeup one iota! Removing pore clogging oil while leaving all your hard work on your face? Sounds good to me!

Too Beautylicious recommends:

And your Breast Cancer Research Item of the day is something you might buy all the time anyway: http://www.chapstick.com/productdetail.aspx?BrandProductName=Pink Pack. Chapstick has a great 3 pack of balms that can be found at just about any drug store, grocery store, etc. Grab some now!

Mae West was right

"I can resist anything except temptation." I know exactly what she means. I was innocently walking past the M.A.C. counter the other day when I saw THEM. These: http://www.maccosmetics.com/product/spp.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CAT154&PRODUCT_ID=781

It was like this beam of light hit them and the angels sang. They are the COOLEST eyeshadows. The pictures online just don't even do them justice. I'm not kidding. I left with "Gilt by Association" and almost skipped out of the store. These eyeshadows are perfect for fall. Dramatic colors and a fantastic texture. If you use a tiny makeup brush, you can actually pick out the individual colors for application. Or, you can use a synthetic bristle brush, dampen it, and apply it that way for a dramatic look. GOR-JUSS!!!!

Since October is breast cancer awareness month, I'll be posting a beauty product that benefits breast cancer research on each new blog entry. Today's product is a lovely, flattering Essie polish: http://www.essieshop.com/yeswecanpink.php
Perfect on fingernails for an elegant, ladylike daytime manicure.
