And now for something completely different

Remember last night when we were discussing the colors of the Golden Globes dresses and how they were all purples and pinks? Well, throw in some oranges, and you've got yourself the major lip colors of the spring. People are wanting to look and feel optimistic. What's more optimistic than a bright lip color? Candy colored pinks and surf tastic corals and bright violets are ruling the catwalks and fashion magazines these days. Talk about a wake up to the face after a dull, cold winter. Here's a great idea for those of you who are a little nervous about such a major choice- you can always elect for a sheer, bright colored gloss. That way, you can still get the pop without quite the same level of...commitment, as it were. Want some ideas? I thought you'd never ask:

Clinique's High Impact Lip Color in Peach Pop

Kat Von D's Painted Love Lipstick in Backstage Bambi

Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in Amethyst Shimmer

Napolean Perdis Devine Goddess Lipstick in either Calypso or Xenia

All of these can be found on Sephora or Ulta. And remember- if you're scared of the lipstick, you can always get a gloss that is bright, but sheer.

  1. Hey Dawn, I would love to try a more daring lipstick, but I'm not sure what would be the right shade for me. For example, I think orange would look awful on me because I am rather pale (especially now in the winter...). Any pointers?

  2. Hey! Fortunately, there's a new line of lipsticks from Revlon called Colorburst Lipsticks. The colors were created by a professional makeup artist and the lipsticks are made with sweet almond oil. So, none of that dried crusty lipstick mouth!

All the colors are really pretty and saturated. My favorites are True Red, Coral, Fuschia, and Raspberry. These colors fall right in line with the new spring trends. Want to know an easy way to figure out which ones will work for you? Check the skin on the inside of your wrist. If it's primarily pink, then you're cool toned and can wear all the pinks and blue-based reds. If it's more yellow, then you can wear corals and orange based reds. The good thing is that there are crossover shades. Corals that have a lot of pink in them and pinks that have some wonderful brown undertones. But, with such a bold lip color, you'd probably want to stick in your comfort zone.

Just Google "Revlon Colorburst Lipstick" to get a look at all the shades and see some other websites comments about the product. Good luck!
