Something to drool over

Fall/Winter 2010 is bringing in a wave of lady-like loveliness. Gone are the slouchy t-shirts and torn leggings and slapped together looks. The look is definitely more "done" than it has been in some time. (And I, for one, could not be happier!)

Anywho, I don't think it's a coincidence that during this emergence of elegance that Burberry is releasing its first beauty line. They are starting small with a few keys pieces. The idea behind it was to look classically cool. Just like their iconic trench coat. What do I love the most? They put their trademarked plaid design on all the cosmetics!! (See the lipstick above- how gorgeous is that?)

Keep in mind that this is Burberry which of course means not cheap. But, it sure is pretty and if nothing else, it's something amazing to admire. Of course, if you are flush with cash, you can run to your nearest Nordstrom, or Burberry if you're across the pond, and purchase a beautifully crafted tube of lipstick for only $30.

Let's break it down

I read articles all the time about how to figure out if you should buy high end fashion. For instance, if you find a coat that you love that's $500, you need to think about how many times you're going to wear it to decide if it's worth the money or "affordable", if you will. The math goes like this- The coat is $500. But, if you are planning on wearing said coat an average of 20 times in a month, that coat will cost you $25 each time you wear it in that month. But, if you live where it's cold and you're going to wear that coat 3 or 4 months, that's only $6-$8 each time you wear it. So, you pack your lunch the days you wear your coat and eventually, you break even. See how the math works?

Anywho- the same can be said for beauty products. Sometimes, we can be tempted to buy a more high end product. Just apply the same logic. Is this something that you're going to wear/use everyday? Or is this something that you're specifically buying for an evening out or something like that? If I am going to buy a bottle of foundation that costs $30, but I'm going to wear it 30 days of the month and a bottle lasts me 3 months, that's 33 cents a day. TOTALLY affordable and justifiable. But, if I buy a $20 lip gloss specifically for a party and I'm not really planning on wearing it many more times, that's definitely more expensive in the long wrong.

So, the next time that you're in the market for a beauty product, just think about how often you're going to wear it when you're weighing out if it's worth the cost. In today's economy, it never hurts to do a little extra work to be sure that you're getting the most bang for your buck!
