Being a savvy shopper

Ladies, be sure to check out the major cosmetics websites over the next several weeks. Clinique, Stila, Too Faced, Urban Decay, Lorac, Sephora, Ulta, etc. Why? Because the deals you're about to be able to get are going to be bananas. Free shipping will just be the tip of the iceburg. Free samples, buy one get one freebies, special holiday kits at unreal prices, makeup bags or totes if you spend a certain amount. The bonuses go on and on! For a true makeup junkie, like yours truly, this really is the MOST wonderful time of the year!!!

Keep in mind, too, that mega online stores like Ulta, Sephora, and Beauty.com are one stop shopping places because they offer loads of brands. So, if you stock up in one place on the things you want, the chances of you getting an even bigger and better bonus/freebie/whatever is even greater.

Don't forget about the contest!!!!

The Twilight Saga continues!

So, I don't know if you're one of those chicks who is all into the whole Twilight thing. I have seen the first movie and I own the books (need to get around to reading them). But, I'm not hooked on it like some people. However, there are some cool makeup homages to the whole vampire trend that's going on right now. I think my favorite would have to be deep, dark wine colored nail polish. It's not red and it's not purple. It's the perfect balance between the two. A little sparkle never hurt either.

Want some suggestions? How about these:

DON'T FORGET! There is my fantastic contest running right now! Become a follower and get your friends to join too! There's a lovely beauty bag up for grabs!

I didn't know you were a boxer!

It happens to the best of us. At some point, we have puffy eyes. Whether it's due to allergies or crying or whatever. It's going to happen. Fortunately, if you make like a Boy Scout and BE PREPARED, you can take care of the problem.

First, everyone should own a bottle of Visine. They only have about a zillion different varieties. Dry eyes, red eyes, allergy eyes, etc. Find the one that's right for you and stick it in your medicine cabinet. This is your first line of defense. Immediately apply 2 drops to each eye. Keep your head tipped back until your eye is really saturated with the drops and you can tell it went down your tear duct.

Second, you need a cooling eye gel. Not a cream. Definitely a gel. Here are a few recommendations:
1. http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=27780&catid=12355
2. http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=191145&catid=12355
3. http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=190975&catid=12355

The best thing to do is to keep this in the refridgerator. Insta-cool!! Gently dab the gel all over your entire eye area. Undereye, eyelid, etc.

Finally, the coup de gras, everyone should also own one of these: http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=169858&catid=9386
A gel eye mask works wonders for everything from puffy eyes to headaches. Get one and throw it in the fridge. It's ready when you need it. So, you've applied your Visine, your eye cream, and now slap on your mask and lay down for a good 10 minutes. Relax. Breathe. After 10 minutes, take a look at your eyes. If you need another 5 minutes, take them. After this, you should look and feel loads better.

A tip from a reader

A reader of Too Beautylicious wanted me to pass this tip along to the rest of you. It sounds like a great (and inexpensive) idea!

Her esthetician told her that if you have an inflamed zit (you know the painful ones that are building up and not ready yet) you can soak a cotton ball in witch hazel and place in zip lock baggy in freezer for 5 minutes. Then take it out and place it on the zit to calm and clear it. You can buy witch hazel at any drugstore or health food store. Give it a try!

Another pretty fall look

You know what's cute? Those apres-ski chic girls that you see in pictures in Vogue and stuff. You know what part of their charm is? The glowing skin and pink cheeks. Want to know how you can get that without the extremely expensive vacation?

First, make sure you're exfoliating regularly to get rid of that dull skin. Then, either mix your foundation with a highlighter and smooth all over or use a more wintertime appropriate bronzer. I like Too Faced's Snow Bunny: http://www.toofaced.com/product_template.asp?dept_sub_id=21&dept_id=9&cat_id=43

It gives you a cool hint of color without being too orange.

Second, those beautiful pink cheeks. You've got to have those. Feel free to look for a shade that's brighter than you normally wear. Nothing peachy! Look for a rose color. Remember the tip that I gave you a while ago about the perfect blush color being the pad of your index finger? Yeah, go about a shade or 2 brighter than that. You want to use a big, soft brush and really get the entire apple of your cheek. A pretty, natural shiny lip will complete your look. Make everyone think you're one of those outdoorsy types.

Remember- get some friends to follow this blog and you could win a lovely beauty bag from Too Beautylicious! See the entry for November 13 for all the details!

3 things for Friday!

Hello! Well, it's Friday. We survived another week. So, I've got 3 things for you to help sliiiiiide into the weekend.

First- go to www.shesheme.com and sign up for their newsletters. They are hilarious and helpful and I love seeing their fashion recommendations for all price points. They also have a shop on their website that has some really cute gift ideas for your girlfriends. The holidays are coming, remember!!! They usually have coupon codes in their newsletters, too, for some of their retail partners. What? Good suggestions and you can save money shopping online? Um, ok!

Second- do you have a Kohl's near you? I know, I know. That's almost like asking if you have a Wal-Mart near you these days. But, the reason I ask is because their makeup selection just keeps getting better and better. Everything from their fun Flirt! line (think MAC on a budget) to their American Beauty line. They also have a line that uses almost all natural products. Can't get to Origins? Try the "Grassroots" line. I am really impressed! Oh, and did I mention that you can't go wrong with some of their accessories lines, too? See! It's one stop shopping!

Third- I need more followers. What does that mean? Another contest for you!! If you are a current reader, become a follower. Then, recruit your friends! Get them to join and have them post a comment that they joined because of you. The person who can get the most people to join by Thanksgiving will be receiving a lovely gift bag of beauty treats for you to enjoy! (No, I am not above bribery. I admit it.)

I have to be honest

My favorite thing right now is a well made up eye. Especially eyelashes-a-go-go. Oh my god. I can't help it. I love loads of lashes. Think of it this way, your lip gloss or lipstick will come off at some point during the day. And depending on what kind of skin you have, your blush might fade. But, eye makeup can stay on and make a statement ALL DAY. Now that it's fall, it's time to kick it up a notch. I know we've talked about mascaras before, but I just wanted to offer a few more suggestions.

Too Faced has their Lash Injection: http://www.toofaced.com/product_template.asp?dept_sub_id=14&dept_id=3&cat_id=22
This stuff is supposed to literally make you look like you've gotten lash extensions. Hello gorgeous!!! The best part is that you can choose between black or brown. If you're fair skinned or blond, the brown is a PERFECT choice.

Oh Stila, you brilliant woman, you! You've taken a classic and made it even better! http://www.stilacosmetics.com/product_detail.asp?PMID=519&catID=114&departID=2&pos=1&viewall=
Your Major Mascara was wonderful before! But now you've gone and improved it??? Who can I kiss at your corporate offices for this idea???

For a cool, softer effect with all the oomph, Max Factor has their 2000 Calorie and Volume Couture mascaras in a deep auburn color: http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=159242&catid=98577&cmbProdBrandFilter=5889
I love this shade because it doesn't look quite as harsh, but you still get all the giant-ness. It's the tiniest change, but it makes such a difference!

So, get out there and get something new. Emphasize those gorgeous eyes of yours. People will notice!

Don't give me any static!!!

Are you prone to crazy, static-y hair in the winter time? Lord knows I am! One easy way to get around that is to use a leave-in conditioning treatment before you blow dry or let your hair air dry. Don't worry- I'm not talking about some heavy, greasy liquid. My favorite is by Aveeno: http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=215286&catid=10726

You just spray it all over and voila! Smooth, healthy hair that doesn't make you look ridiculous when you get out of your car!

Don't worry! I didn't go missing!

Holy cow! It's been a while. I am SO sorry that I've been MIA. Lots of lovely tidbits to make up for it today.

First, if you aren't a Sephora Insider, go IMMEDIATELY to their website and sign up. I just got their holiday catalog and there are some fantastic deals in it. Also, only the beauty insiders are going to get an e-mail update in December with some sort of fabulous offer in it. I can't wait!!!

Second, if you only buy ONE holiday makeup set this year, get this: http://www.stilacosmetics.com/product_detail.asp?PMID=686&catID=6&departID=2&pos=1&viewall=
Stila's annual holiday collection. Oh, these colors are DROOL-WORTHY! And here's the best part- if you get one you don't like, you can give it to someone as a stocking stuffer!!! You can't beat the price.

Third, since we are in Thanksgiving season, it's a fantastic time of year to use beauty products that contain pumpkin. Pumpkin is loaded with vitamins that are essential for skin protection and (lets be honest) it smells fantastic. Here are a few recommendations:
http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=162204&catid=10396
http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=220315&catid=18807
http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=196460&catid=80881

Any of these would be good for your skin and the environment!

And on that same note, if you have a little extra cash to spend on yourself, I cannot begin to tell you how much I ADORE the Philosophy 3-in-1's that come in holiday scents. Take a minute and flip through all the options: http://www.philosophy.com/web/store/CategoryDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&categoryId=24026&top_category=23504&viewType=&index=0&orderBy1=Sequence&filterTerm=
Gingerbread, cinnamon buns, hot cocoa, holiday spice, eggnog, and on and on! These things are shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and I even like to use them to shave my legs. Let me tell you- getting up in the morning isn't always fun. These make it a little more bearable. It's a delicious wakeup call in the shower.

Hide and seek

So, there are those days that we aren't exactly looking our best. There may be something we need to try to hide/disguise/coverup. Let's talk about that today.

Now, we all have bad hair days every once in a while. Maybe it's sticking up funny or you've got greasy roots or just roots showing, period, because it's still another week until your hair appointment. What to do? Rock a cute hat. I'm not kidding. Slouchy, fabulous hats are it for the fall and winter. And guess what- they are also wearable in the office. My personal favorite place to get hats right now is Forever 21 (www.forever21.com) Too is currently in love with these: http://www.forever21.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=FOREVER21&category%5Fname=acc%5Fhat%5Fhairgoods&product%5Fid=2068179606&Page=3
and: http://www.forever21.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=FOREVER21&category%5Fname=acc%5Fhat%5Fhairgoods&product%5Fid=2065135464&Page=3
and: http://www.forever21.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=FOREVER21&category%5Fname=acc%5Fhat%5Fhairgoods&product%5Fid=2067738426&Page=5

SO CUTE! And instead of being self conscious about what your head is looking like, you'll be the envy of the office!

Let's move down to the face. I don't care how much of a grownup you are, you can still get a zit. Boooooo! This is why I'm not 13 anymore!! But, I do have a few tricks to help. First, own a makeup primer. This is kind of like spackle to help even things out before you apply your foundation. Primers can also be oil absorbing, so that thing won't be glowing red halfway through the day. Next, apply your foundation, patting it gently over the zit. When your foundation has had a minute to "set", take a teeny, tiny brush and apply a light layer of concealer JUST on the zit. The most important part of that whole thing is NOT to touch your face during the day. You'll just end up taking all that hard work off.

The power lip!

I'm sorry, but you know what I love? A really bold lip. And now that it's really, REALLY fall, it's a great time to wear this look. My favorite way to do it? First, choose a moisturizing lipstick in a color that YOU love. If you like pink, make it pink. (Not a NUDE pink! Make sure you can see it!) If you are a red girl, go for it! A lovely berry or plum? Gorgeous! Next, apply the color straight from the tube onto lips. Blot/press gently into your lips with some tissue and re-apply if needed or if it looks uneven. Now, apply a gloss in the same color family on top. Now you have saturated color with gleam on top. It will make your smile that much more beautiful!
